Successful Online Conference Highlights Green Skills for Active Aging
On February 11, 2025, the online conference “Green Skills for Active Aging” brought together nearly 52 participants from across the European Union, marking a successful and inspiring event dedicated to promoting sustainability and well-being among older adults.
Hosted via Zoom, the event was free of charge and aimed to explore how green practices can support healthy, active aging. Experts from various sectors shared their insights on integrating sustainability into everyday life and lifelong learning. The conference was organized with the support of the European Union, alongside Šiauliai Education Centre and TIR Consulting Group
A Diverse and Insightful Program
The program kicked off with opening speeches by Vilma Tubutienė, Director of the CAC, and Ieva Grušaitė, a methodologist, setting the tone for the rich discussions that followed.
Key highlights included:
“Green Lifestyle as a Basis for Active and Healthy Ageing” by Vice Mayor Justinas Švėgžda, which emphasized the role of adult education in promoting green values.
Dr. Marc Beutner from Paderborn University explored the importance of sustainability in education across European contexts.
Engaging talks on green psychology, meaningful life strategies, and emotional well-being showcased the broad applications of eco-friendly practices for seniors.
The conference concluded with a networking session, giving participants a chance to exchange ideas and foster collaboration for future initiatives.
Broad Participation and Engagement
The event successfully attracted stakeholders from various EU countries, including educators, policymakers, NGO representatives, and active seniors—all eager to discuss how green skills can enhance the quality of life in older age. Interactive discussions and practical strategies were key themes throughout the conference.
